Vela Trust, an impact-driven, non-profit trust strives to expand access to high-quality, relevant higher education. Vela works with Eduvos to unlock bursary opportunities for students.

The bursary application process is very competitive. Applying for a bursary does not guarantee you getting it, but the more you apply, the more you increase your chances of securing funding.

Our very own Vossies are proof that bursaries are attainable, and we hope this story inspires you too. Starting your academic career can be daunting. Balancing studies and personal life can be challenging enough, but adding financial challenges to the mix can make it feel almost impossible. Bursary programmes can play a major role in alleviating this burden and allowing students to focus on their education without financial stress.

Meet Vuyiswa Nyathela, a third-year Biomedicine student at Eduvos. She completed her matric at Nigel Secondary School, south-east of Johannesburg, and applied to study at Eduvos after we paid a visit to her school. “After the presentation at my school, I was motivated to apply because I could see my future.”
While her mother had to take out a loan to cover Vuyiswa's fees in her first year, they soon discovered the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) bursary programme which funds students at both public and private institutions. Receiving the GCRA bursary helped ease the financial burden. It has allowed Vuyiswa to concentrate on her studies and pursue a path towards becoming a medical professional. "I am truly grateful for the opportunity the GCRA bursary has given me. It has made things financially feasible for me and it has also opened doors for me which might not have been open without it."
Vuyiswa plans on furthering her studies and hopes to pursue her Honours degree. She has great advice for other students: “Don’t let financial hardships hinder you from pursuing your dreams. Spend time researching scholarships and bursaries that can assist in alleviating the financial stress. With the help of the internet it is now easier than ever to find information about these types of opportunities.”
Vuyiswa's dedication to her academic and career goals is inspiring, and her story serves as an example of how bursary programmes can make a significant impact in shaping the future of young people. With greater access to education and support, the potential for future leaders and innovators is limitless – driven by determined and purposeful individuals like Vuyiswa.

Together, we believe that these external bursaries can significantly support your educational journey, ease the financial burden and help you achieve your academic goals. Keep an eye on our External Bursaries.
