See Something. Say Something.

See Something. Say Something.

A significant challenge in the fight against corruption is the fact that individuals are often too intimidated to speak out on corrupt and/or unlawful activities they observe occurring in the workplace, even though they are obligated to do so in terms of the employee code of conduct. This hesitation often stems from fear, intimidation, or a lack of understanding of the positive impact that whistleblowing can have on promoting individual responsibility and organisational accountability.

Whistleblowing serves as an important tool in uncovering corruption and ensuring ethical standards in the workplace. By reporting corrupt activities, employees contribute to fostering a culture of transparency and integrity within their organisations.

A whistleblower is a person or entity making a protected disclosure, including employees, applicants for employment, students, third parties or the general public. Their role is as a reporting party, not investigators or finders of fact, and they don’t determine corrective actions.

Employers play a pivotal role in creating an environment where whistleblowers feel protected and supported. South African law recognises the significance of whistleblowing in the fight against corruption. Employers must establish internal procedures for receiving and addressing information about improprieties, emphasising the legal obligation to create a safe space for whistleblowers.

Eduvos affirms its commitment to responsible whistleblowing through a comprehensive policy. This commitment extends to supporting and protecting whistleblowers, outlining the steps they should take in making disclosures and detailing Eduvos’s response.

This commitment alights with legal requirements and reflects a dedication to fostering an environment where individuals feel empowered to speak out against wrongdoing. In actively embracing whistleblowing as a tool for accountability, organisations actively contribute to building workplaces characterised by integrity and ethical conduct.
