Shape the Future of Science with the Eduvos BioVerse Competition.

We are excited to announce the launch of our Faculty of Applied Science’s first student competition, the Eduvos BioVerse Competition. This competition serves as a platform for third-year and honours-level students from private and public higher education institutions to showcase bold scientific innovations, ingenuity, and passion in addressing real-world challenges unique to our continent, our people, and our resources.  

The Eduvos BioVerse Competition will host a live-pitch event for all finalists on Thursday, 30 October, at our Pretoria Campus.  

“This inaugural Eduvos BioVerse Competition represents Eduvos and the Faculty of Applied Science’s commitment to shaping not only skilled graduates, but visionary problem-solvers,” says Dr Siva Danaviah, Head of Programme: Applied Science. “It’s a call to action for future scientists to tackle the challenges that matter most to Africa. We’re proud to create a space where bold ideas can thrive, and where the next generation of young scientists can lead the way in transforming health, sustainability, and biotechnology solutions across the continent.” 

We remain committed to providing life-changing opportunities where budding scientists, including our Vossies, can demonstrate their critical and analytical thinking skills, the very skills that set them up for a successful career. This competition is no different and calls for students in science disciplines to advance real solutions in key areas, including: 

• Genetic Engineering and Synthetic Biology 
• Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bioscience 
• Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering 
• Diagnostics and Medical Devices 
• Environmental Biotechnology 
• Sustainability & Responsible Natural Resource Management 
• Drug Development and Delivery Systems 
• Public Health and Community-based Biotechnology Solutions 
• Biotech Entrepreneurship 
• Sustainable Development in Food, Water, and the Environment 

Bring Your Innovative Ideas to Life. 

The future of science belongs to you, the next generation of visionary innovators in biotechnology and biomedicine. To enter, you need to submit a proposal that outlines your project. Your proposal should cover: 

• The problem you’re solving 
• Your innovation or solution 
• Its potential impact 
• The business case and feasibility 
• Your plan to make it happen 

All proposals will be evaluated on merit, feasibility, impact, and innovation. Successful proposals will move to the final round, where you’ll have the chance to pitch your idea and stand a chance to win career-enhancing prizes. 

All finalists in the competition will receive: 

• A skills-building preparatory workshop with Twenty20Science. 
• The opportunity to present your idea to a panel of expert judges and enhance your network. 
• Media features on the Eduvos social media and website platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. 
• Direct exposure to industry professionals and eminent scientists. 
• An official Certificate of Participation to add to your CV. 

The prize for the winning project includes: 

• An internship opportunity with Aquatico Scientific that will launch your career in a field of your choice. 
• A mentorship opportunity with Twenty20Science. 
• Funding to attend a high-impact science conference of your choice (R5000 voucher sponsored by Inqaba Biotech). 
• A R1000 iStore Education Voucher.
