Discover the Faculty of Applied Science

Post by Eduvos, March 17, 2026.

The Faculty of Applied Science is designed for students who are curious about how science can be used to solve real-world challenges. With a strong focus on biotechnology, healthcare, and research, the faculty combines academic knowledge with practical laboratory experience to prepare graduates for careers in rapidly evolving scientific fields.

Studying Applied Science at Eduvos exposes you to topics that range from human health and biomedical research to biotechnology innovation and scientific problem solving. Throughout your studies, you will develop the analytical thinking, research capabilities, and technical laboratory skills needed to contribute to industries that are shaping the future.

Our Applied Science qualifications are offered at the Midrand, Pretoria, and Tygervalley campuses, where you have access to modern learning environments and state-of-the-art laboratories that support practical learning.

Qualifications in the Faculty of Applied Science

The Faculty of Applied Science offers a range of qualifications that support different entry points into the bioscience field.

Admission Requirements

For the Bachelor of Science in Biomedicine and the Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology Management, you need a minimum of 50% in the following Grade 12 or equivalent subjects:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Biology or Life Sciences
  • Physical Science

If you do not meet the required marks in subjects such as Physical Science, Life Sciences/Biology, or Mathematics, you can enrol in the Bachelor of Science Access Programme. This programme provides you with the academic preparation needed to progress into a bachelor’s degree programme and can extend up to two Blocks (six months).

A Learning Environment Built for Scientific Discovery

A key advantage of studying Applied Science at Eduvos is access to Biosafety Level 1 – BSL 1 state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities that support hands-on learning. These environments allow you to apply scientific theory, conduct experiments, and develop the technical laboratory skills required in research and industry settings.

The faculty also encourages innovation through initiatives such as the Eduvos BioVerse Competition. This annual competition invites third-year and honours-level students from both private and public higher education institutions to present bold scientific ideas that address challenges relevant to Africa, its people, and its natural resources.

Last year, the Eduvos BioVerse competition saw strong representation from Eduvos, with two students placing second and third, demonstrating the creativity and scientific thinking fostered within the faculty.

In addition, the faculty’s programmes are endorsed by the African Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS), recognising the relevance of these qualifications within the broader scientific community.
