Our Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism Management students across the Mbombela, Midrand, and Tygervalley campuses recently represented Eduvos at the Future Leaders Challenge South Africa (FLCSA). This is a national initiative focused on developing emerging talent in the tourism and business events sector. The programme challenges students to think critically, innovate, and develop practical solutions to real-world industry and societal challenges.
Participation in FLCSA provided students with valuable exposure to the tourism industry while creating an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a practical environment. Working on real challenges allowed students to strengthen their problem-solving abilities, collaborate across campuses, and gain insight into how innovation can be used to address industry needs.
A key highlight of the programme was the presentation of Talent Pod, a digital platform developed by the Eduvos team to address youth unemployment within the tourism sector.
The platform connects tourism students and graduates with verified work experience opportunities, including job shadowing, paid weekend work, and internships. Through a QR-based verification system, supervisors can track attendance, evaluate performance, and provide feedback, helping students build credible workplace experience while providing employers with access to emerging talent.
The project aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as well as African Union Agenda 2063 Goal 18, which focuses on youth empowerment, skills development, and employment opportunities.
The Eduvos FLCSA team comprised of:
The students were supported throughout the project by Ms Nasreen Tisaker and Mr Anele Mtemeli, whose guidance helped shape the concept into a practical and scalable solution.
The presentation reflected the strength of student innovation within the Faculty of Commerce and highlighted the ability of Eduvos students to apply theory to real-world challenges with confidence and purpose. Experiences such as FLCSA continue to reinforce the importance of industry engagement and experiential learning in developing future-ready graduates.
Eduvos remains committed to nurturing student-led innovation that contributes to meaningful social and economic impact, while preparing graduates to actively participate in and shape the future of their industries.
