Opportunity often changes the way we see ourselves and our future. Meet Tendani Makhokha, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Software Engineering graduate whose journey has been shaped by curiosity, growth, and a willingness to explore new possibilities. Through industry exposure, practical learning experiences, and opportunities beyond the classroom, she has gained a deeper understanding of where her skills can take her and the impact she hopes to make one day.

Today, as a two-time student, Tendani is building a future driven by ambition, purpose, and a passion for using technology to create meaningful change.

Discovering a World of Possibilities

When Tendani completed school, she knew she wanted to continue her education, even though she was still exploring what her future might look like. "I am still in the process of discovering who I am, but one thing I have learned about myself is that I am ambitious," she says.

A recommendation from a family friend led her to Eduvos, opening the door to opportunities that would help shape her future. "Looking back, I am grateful I chose Eduvos because it gave me more than just a qualification. It gave me opportunities, exposure, and the chance to discover what excites me about my future," Tendani explains.

As she progressed through her studies, Tendani found herself increasingly drawn to the possibilities that technology creates. What excited her most was the realisation that technology is not limited to a single industry or career path. "What excites me most about my field of study is that it constantly reminds me that the world is my oyster," she says.

Through coursework that exposed her to challenges and scenarios from industries such as banking, agriculture, and automotive businesses, she began to understand how technology can be applied to solve real-world problems across a wide range of sectors. That exposure helped her see technology differently. Rather than viewing it simply as a profession, she began to see it as a tool for creating solutions, opening doors, and making a meaningful impact wherever opportunities exist.

Growing Through Experience

As her studies progressed, Tendani continued to explore where she could fit within the technology industry and how her skills could create value. Industry exposure played an important role in that journey. Through Work Integrated Learning and industry engagements organised by Eduvos, she gained insight into the diverse opportunities available to technology professionals and the many ways their skills can be applied. "One visit to a bank was particularly eye-opening because it showed me just how many opportunities exist for technology professionals," she says. Those experiences helped bring her studies to life and gave her greater confidence in the possibilities available to her after graduation.

The practical and project-driven structure of the course also taught her to apply her knowledge to practical challenges and see the value technology can create in real-world environments. "It was one of the first moments where I could clearly see myself building a career in this field, and it gave me confidence that I had chosen the right path," she says.

Alongside technical knowledge, Tendani developed skills that she knows will serve her throughout her career. One of the most valuable was learning how to communicate effectively with different audiences, and the Business English module taught her how to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

"My qualification also taught me that I am capable of overcoming challenges. Difficulties may slow me down, but they do not stop me," Tendani says. She credits the support of her lecturers and fellow students for helping shape her experience. "The lecturers are passionate, experienced, and genuinely invested in helping students succeed," she adds.

Combined with the friendships and connections she built along the way, that support created an environment where she could continue learning, growing, and challenging herself.

Tendani's story is a reminder that opportunity has the power to shape both our direction and our confidence. Through ambition, resilience, and a willingness to embrace new experiences, she has discovered possibilities she never knew existed. Today, she is focused on creating those same opportunities for others, using technology as a tool to uplift communities, solve meaningful problems, and make a lasting impact.
