Eduvos Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student, Robert Njawaya talks to us about his educational and esports journey at our Midrand campus.

How does esports influence your studies?
Esports continuously sharpens my problem-solving skills. I've found that in both gaming and my studies, I don't easily give up until I grasp a concept or topic. This tenacity is extremely valuable in the world of computer science where pushing yourself to the limits is often required. Though it might sound like the words of a typical Shōnen manga protagonist, I have a dream to be among the best in the world. Esports and video gaming have greatly helped me in this.

Do you think your qualification has an impact on how you play esports? And vice versa?
My academic qualification doesn't directly influence how I play esports since my gaming approach leans more towards the creativity and curiosity that I've inherently had. However, I would say gaming has improved my skills in problem-solving and critical thinking.

Why did you choose your qualification and how are you finding it so far?
I chose Computer Science due to my passion for computers, programming, and product design. In a world that increasingly relies on technology, understanding the fundamentals of computers is very important because this knowledge lays the foundation for me to go after my most ambitious dreams. So far, I've found my journey in computer science to be very rewarding.

What is your dream career and why?
My dream career is to be a researcher and developer for products and video games. The joy I find in coding, devising solutions, and designing products that I would want to use is unmatched. My love for both art and technology made it challenging for me to pick a singular career path initially. However, I've come to realise that a role in research and development seamlessly integrates all my passions, while also offering endless opportunities for both learning and growth.
