Eduvos has various student bodies and initiatives to create the best learning experience possible while preparing students for the world of work. One such initiative is BioCom, currently based on the Midrand campus.

What is BioCom?

BioCom is a sub-division of the SRC that focuses on Biomedicine and Biotechnology students in the Applied Science faculty. They are responsible for organising events in community outreach and student entertainment, as well as offering students support, and additional information related to the science industry.

Why was BioCom started?

The goal of both the faculty and the students is to cultivate a balanced and engaging university experience. The committee has existed for many years, but the 2023 team has refreshed the vision of the organisation.
“The role of BioCom is to go the extra mile to make sure that the Applied Science students have an excellent experience in and outside the class.” – Oscar Murombo Applied Science Faculty assistant and BioCom representative.

How does BioCom interact with Applied Science students?

BioCom hosts events that enrich students’ learning experience by exposing them to the working world with internships, empowerment events and mentorship opportunities. They also assist the students with making the most of their academic year by hosting seminars in which they can learn scientific writing and debate science issues.

Who is the right fit for Applied Science?

An essential part of being a science student is a passion for science-based knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge to solve a problem or improve a process. Careers in science are both challenging and fulfilling.
