Eduvos Partners with AIMS to Advance Real-World Learning

Post by Eduvos, August 19, 2025.

We’re proud to announce a new partnership between our Faculty of Applied Science and the African Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS), bringing real-world learning opportunities for our students through dedicated Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) placements, research collaboration opportunities for staff and students and a network of partner institutes across the continent. AIMS is an organisation focused on the professional development of medical scientists and advancing early-career medical science professionals in South Africa. Their mission is to advocate for the development and empowerment of medical scientists, enhance visibility of the field, and create inclusive environments for excellence and innovation.

At Eduvos, we believe in hands-on education that prepares our graduates for the real world. That’s why we partner with leading organisations to bring relevant opportunities for our Vossies and provide opportunities to explore, connect, and interact with the sciences, and develop real-world, employable skills. Such partnerships have established valuable opportunities for our students, including internships with Inqaba Biotec and Triton Pharma, industry visits, and many more. One of our exciting initiatives currently running is the Eduvos Bioverse Competition, where students showcase their bioinnovations to solve real-world challenges. Through this partnership with AIMS, our Applied Science students will gain direct access to practical, in-field experience that helps them apply their academic learning in real-world medical science environments, while connecting with professionals shaping the future of the field.

“Our partnership with AIMS reflects our commitment to empowering students with industry-relevant experience and future-focused learning,” says Dr Siva Danaviah, Head of Programme: Applied Science. “Work-Integrated Learning opportunities and exposure to industry leaders like these not only enrich academic understanding, but also equip our Vossies with the confidence, industry knowledge, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in the evolving world of science.”

As an Eduvos student, you are required to participate in our WIL programme during your final year of study. WIL is not just an exercise; it’s an immersion into the day-to-day running of a department and exposure to the career you’re aspiring to. This programme provides insight into what you can expect in the workplace and offers the possibility of future employment opportunities.
