Eduvos Mbombela & University of Mpumalanga Make History with Inaugural Moot Court Competition

Post by Eduvos, August 15, 2025.

A landmark moment for future legal minds where the courtroom spirit came to life at Eduvos Mbombela as we joined forces with the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) to host the first-ever Moot Court Competition. This exciting new initiative not only showcased exceptional student talent but also marked the beginning of what we hope will become a celebrated annual tradition in our legal education calendar.

Rising to the Challenge and Winning

A huge congratulations to our 3rd Respondent Team that includes Nokubonga Chadi, Ngwanaphalama Ramonyai, Muhammad Patel, Buhle Mashabane, and Deborah Shabangu for winning the award for Best Well-Organised Team. Their meticulous preparation, professionalism, and teamwork impressed the judges and set the bar high for future competitions.

A friendly rivalry with a shared victory to which the final scores, based on the official rubric, ended in a tie that is a fitting reflection of the high calibre of advocacy, reasoning, and presentation skills on both sides. This outcome speaks volumes about the commitment and potential of both Eduvos and UMP students.

Collaboration that Strengthens the Profession

We are deeply grateful to our partners at UMP for their collaboration and commitment to nurturing the next generation of legal minds. Our gratitude also goes to our esteemed panel of judges; Karabo Mashiteng-Speelman, Mpendulo Mdluli, Mike Nonyane, and Chris Harrison for lending their time, expertise, and wise counsel to our students. The turnout from students, faculty, and staff was nothing short of inspiring. It wasn’t just about competition, it was about community, learning, and shared ambition. The energy in the room reflected the supportive and future-focused environment that defines Eduvos.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Moot Court at Eduvos

We’re already looking forward to the next Moot Court Competition and to expanding opportunities for our students to put their legal knowledge into practice. At Eduvos, events like this ensure that our graduates are not just academically equipped but also confident, capable, and ready to lead in the legal profession.
