Eduvos Prepares Learners for Tertiary Studies

Eduvos has introduced an Academic Support Readiness Programme which focuses on academic literacy, numeracy and computer literacy.  We understand that the transition from high school to tertiary studies, or from a Higher Certificate to a Degree, can be difficult, and through the readiness programme, we aim to reduce the skills gap and make the transition as seamless as possible.

Who can benefit from the programme?

This readiness programme helps to prepare a wide variety of students:

New higher certificate students, and degree students who may have underachieved in Maths and English.

New students who have had limited exposure in Information Technology.

Students with a matric Mathematics mark in literacy and numeracy lower than 50%, and/or

Students who did not have Computer Literacy will receive automatic enrolment

Why is this programme necessary?

At Eduvos, we often see students struggling to transition from secondary to tertiary education. Recent surveys have shown that between 19% and 36 % of students have found the transition from High School to Higher Education to be quite challenging – and we want to remedy this.  The pandemic has also affected school attendance across the globe, classes moving online had an influence on students’ social skills, grammar and foundational numeracy.

How do we run this programme?

The programme will run over the first six weeks of each Eduvos block intake. We will start the learning journey by sharing what the expectations are for private higher education so that enough preparation is done for the first round of assessments. Students will attend a one-hour hybrid session that will take place online via Teams from our Tyger Valley campus.

Literacy

This module aims to provide students with the basics and background of academic writing. Paying close attention to the use of verbs, as well as paragraph and sentence construction. This module supports students in achieving academic success within higher education.

Numeracy

Often students have a ‘mental block’ when it comes to mathematics. This module should show the student that mathematics is a powerful tool that can assist them in making decisions based on logical reasoning. Numeracy has the advantage of giving a clear, precise, and objective measure, which enables a manager to compare, contrast and evaluate different options

Computer Skills and Literacy

Within the field of IT, there is often the need to carry out tasks using the internet, word processors, spreadsheets or presentations. This module provides students with the necessary skills to carry out these everyday tasks effectively. Having computer literacy skills is fundamental in the knowledge economy. This module prepares you for applications essential to the workplace. Information Systems students must be familiar with the basic structure of a computer and how it works.

The Eduvos academic team will assess and evaluate everyone's modules and throughput rate. We will then assist our students with the connections between what is taught in the readiness programme to our formative and summative assessment outcomes, which help with the upskilling and preparation needed for the successful attainment of their qualification.
