Eduvos Software Engineering graduate and Honours student, Louis Oosthuizen, talks to us about his Eduvos journey.

Louis grew up in the Western Cape and left everything he knew behind him to study Information Technology at our Pretoria campus. He worked part-time whilst studying with us. Here’s his experience at Eduvos:

Why did you decide to study IT at Eduvos?

My choices were mainly medicine and IT. After noting that a medical degree would not be internationally recognised, I did more research into IT, and I found that Eduvos was the best option.

The degrees at Eduvos are internationally recognised. They have up-to-date modules with industry-relevant content. Post enrolment, we then did further research into the best-reviewed campus – Pretoria. Some of my school friends also studied through Eduvos.

What has your experience at Eduvos been like?

I’ve had the most amazing experience ever – from the first day of communications. I had lots of opportunities to grow as a person and multiple opportunities to enhance my leadership skills. I was never stonewalled in these efforts – they were supported and welcomed – especially during Covid. Throughout my studies, I was surrounded by brilliant and driven peers.

What feedback can you share about the Eduvos staff and lecturers?

They helped us through the entire process from transitioning to Gauteng to enrolment when we were completely overwhelmed with all the new adjustments. My lecturers were immensely helpful and created a great space for learning. I had inspiring lecturers who led me to where I am. Their field experience and expertise shined through in class. I’m grateful to lecturers like Kranthi, Sam, Shani, Duve, Polycarp and Nqobile.

From security guards all the way through to Elna Lombard (Campus General Manager), every single person is always there to help you with any problem that you might have. It’s because of a great leader like Elna that the Pretoria campus has achieved such immense success.

In your opinion, what makes Eduvos unique?

Eduvos has fewer students and offers individual care, in a family-like atmosphere. Their lecturers and admin staff help to break barriers for the students.

Tell us about juggling studying with working part-time…

I started working as a part-time developer in my second year at Zhero Cybersecurity & IT Support. After quite a few tests and evaluations I was accepted into Zhero as an intern developer – part-time. It’s an international company with a head office based in the UK.

Currently, I am a Full-Stack Developer where I develop in a multitude of programming languages. I received full support from the lecturers to study and work part-time. My work in general was supplemented and greatly improved by my studies and vice versa.

This experience allowed me to graduate to a developer position instead of being required to go through a graduate program. It also led to multiple companies contacting me for open IT positions while I was still studying. I am continuing to work with Zhero since I am inspired by the company, their vision and the management team have an incredible work ethic.

Lastly, what advice do you have for future students?

If you're serious about achieving something in your life, come to Eduvos. The lecturers and staff will guide you to your dream career.
