Eduvos Psychology and English graduate, Chloe Bovim talks to us about her academic journey at our Tyger Valley campus.

Why did you decide to study at Eduvos and the qualification you chose?
I decided to study at Eduvos because it is a smaller institution and I came from a private school, so I was used to about 30 people in a grade. So, jumping from a really small school to a very big institution was a little bit intimidating for me.

I planned to do a year exchange after I finished school, but unfortunately, that didn't work out and I was a little bit late for the other applications. So, I was very happy that I was able to apply at Eduvos. It was a much more comfortable space socially and the lectures gave the students a lot more attention. I think that is something that I was really looking forward to, something that I think is a big advantage. Having a lot more one-on-one interactions and being able to ask for help when you need it. I decided to study English and Psychology. I really enjoyed English at school and teachers recommended Psychology and said it would be a really good option. I enjoyed it, I think that's definitely the route I want to go in life. Studying at Eduvos has really helped me realise what I want to do.

What would you say your experience has been like at Eduvos?
It was really interesting since I started studying there in 2020, right as Covid hit. We went from the regular classroom structure to moving online and then later on all the hybrid classes. There were a lot of different teaching methods and I think it was really good to have that variety, especially now going into the future. A lot of institutions are taking the online learning approach. So, I think it was good to have a lot of different ways of learning and interacting with our peers and lecturers. Otherwise, my experience at Eduvos was really good, despite COVID-19 and not being there with other students. We were able to find different ways to connect and work together, especially with group projects.

Tell us a bit more about your experience with the staff and the lecturers.
It was really interesting, especially switching the formats from in-person to online. We were able to meet our lecturers in the first year, but when the second and third year came along, we weren't able to see all of our lecturers in person. At graduation, it was great meeting some of the lecturers for the first time in person. They were awesome. Going through Covid, a lot of the lecturers also had to change their approach to how they interacted with students. Throughout the three years, we all learned better communication methods. So, I think we all went on this journey together and created great bonding moments in the process.

What makes Eduvos unique/ What aspects are unique and stand out to you?
It’s a lot like a big family. There were a lot of real connections between everyone working there and the students. Everyone wants each other to succeed. I’ve witnessed the support, especially now that I've graduated as well. I can still go and ask for help and advice regarding post-graduate studies and career advice. It’s been very supportive. Eduvos encouraged us to ask for help, which I appreciated.

Are you currently working or studying?
I'm working at the moment, but I'm hoping to continue studying. I’ve applied to study postgraduate psychology for honours next year and I'm hoping that works out. I started working in my current position before I started studying, so I was actually working throughout my studies. I work as a Maths and English tutor so the English Literature aspect of my degree has definitely helped me. I’ve been taking what I learned and applying it and it’s been very relevant.

What advice would you give to students who are looking to study at Eduvos?
Work hard and be open-minded in your first year. I think there are a lot of unexpected subjects. For example, we had Political Science modules in first year, and that's not something you would necessarily think you're going to study when you're doing Psychology and English. But I think it's really fun to be able to learn about things that you don't know much about.

It’s good to explore possible interests that you weren't sure you'd ever have. In your first year, there are a lot of subjects that seem intimidating, but if you keep an open mind, study and ask for help, it can be a lot easier. It’s also exciting when you start studying and get closer and closer to all the subjects that you look forward to and all the new things that you learn about. So, as a first-year student, just persevere and ask for help when you need it. Remember to keep an open mind about everything.

Would you encourage other people to study at Eduvos?
For sure! It’s a very welcoming environment. There are a lot of awesome students there and a lot of ways to make it a really good time. There are plenty of clubs and activities to do there, and I think it builds a really solid community. So, if you want a space where you feel welcomed, and where you can grow a friendship group and a community, Eduvos is a good place to go.

What are your career aspirations?
I hope to become a neuropsychologist or work with people who have brain injuries and also do research. I fell in love with psychology and neuroscience, so I'm hoping to pursue those fields and contribute to that community.
