In the fast-paced world of news, where information moves at lightning speed, one Eduvos alumni is standing out for her clarity, confidence, and purpose. Meet Boitumelo Monare, an Eduvos Alumni who now works as a newsreader and journalist at Platinum North West TV. Her journey from campus life to the newsroom is a testament to what future-ready education truly looks like.

Finding Her Voice and Skills at Eduvos

Born and raised in Johannesburg South, Boitumelo always knew she wanted to tell stories that mattered. Her choice to study a Bachelor of Arts was driven by her passion to inform and inspire others.

“My lecturers were more than just teachers. They pushed me, guided me, and helped me find my voice as a young journalist,” she says.

She credits Eduvos for giving her early exposure to digital tools and platforms, content management systems, and social media storytelling—the same technologies used in professional newsrooms. “When I entered the industry, I wasn’t seeing them for the first time. I already knew how to navigate them,” she explains. This foundation made adapting to new technologies second nature and gave her confidence entering the professional world.

Learning by Doing Through Work-Integrated Learning

One of the highlights of Boitumelo’s Eduvos experience was the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme. Starting with WIL placements, these practical opportunities allowed her to apply theory in real-world scenarios, preparing her for life in a newsroom.

Her hands-on experience helped her develop technical skills, resilience, and critical thinking, equipping her to tackle complex stories and meet deadlines with confidence. Those WIL programme placement hours eventually led to an internship and then her current full-time role.

“By the time I joined a newsroom, I wasn’t walking in as someone who had only studied theory. I already had newsroom experience. People were even surprised, asking, ‘Are you really fresh out of studies?’,” she recalls.

Building a Future-Ready Mindset

Eduvos doesn’t just prepare students for the jobs of today. It equips them for the future. “Being future-fit is about more than knowing how to use technology. It’s about how you think. My qualification taught me to stay calm under pressure, think critically and not be afraid of new challenges,” Boitumelo explains.

These lessons continue to shape her daily work, whether she is breaking a complex story, managing a newsroom deadline, or ensuring accuracy and balance in reporting. Boitumelo is also pursuing her Honours in Journalism while having been nominated for Newsreader of the Year, demonstrating continuous growth and dedication.

Advice for Students and Parents

Boitumelo shares advice for matriculants still deciding on their next step. “Choose a path that excites you. Don’t be afraid to start small. Volunteer, gain experience and stay curious. Eduvos will give you the tools, but your passion will carry you forward.”

For parents supporting their children, she adds, “Allow them to explore what truly fuels them. Be patient and keep speaking life into them. You’ll be amazed at who they become.”

Every student deserves the tools, guidance, and opportunities to thrive. Like Boitumelo, Eduvos alumni are shaping industries and leading with purpose, proving that with the right education, the future is not just something to prepare for, it’s something you can create.
