Eduvos Students Gain Industry Insights at WiT Africa.

Post by Eduvos, April 2, 2025.

At Eduvos, learning goes far beyond the campus walls. We’re committed to equipping our Vossies with the knowledge, skills, and experiences that will prepare them for success in the real world. That’s why we create opportunities for our students to explore industries, meet esteemed professionals, and gain hands-on experience that sets them apart.

Recently, a group of our final year Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism students were selected to attend the Web in Travel (WiT) Africa event, an experience that was nothing short of eye-opening. The event brought together influential voices and gave students first-hand insight into the industry’s trends, challenges, and career opportunities.

Breaking Barriers and Gaining New Perspectives

For our Vossies, attending WiT Africa was a transformational experience. Olivia Olivier reflected on how stepping into this space pushed her beyond her comfort zone. She was particularly inspired by the concept of reverse mentoring, a practice where young professionals provide fresh insights to experienced industry leaders.

"I loved how some of the discussions included the younger generation mentoring the older generation. It created a sense of mutual learning, making the experience even more meaningful," Olivia added.

Another student, Cheyenne van der Colff, shared how the event helped her clarify her career path. Beyond the insights shared on stage, WiT Africa also presented invaluable networking opportunities. Cheyenne connected with professionals from Travelstart, a leading online travel agency, which could open doors for future career prospects.

"I never fully understood the power of networking until this event. Meeting industry professionals face-to-face and learning about their experiences was incredibly insightful," she reflected.

Learning from Industry Experts

The event also featured roundtable discussions with experts who’ve shaped the industry. For Abigail Steyn this was one of the most inspiring aspects of the event.

"Hearing from Liezl Gericke and Stephan Ekbergh, the CEO of Travelstart, was incredible. Their stories of overcoming challenges highlighted the resilience needed to succeed in this industry," Abigail said.

She was particularly intrigued by how industry leaders emphasised adaptability and innovation as key qualities for success in the tourism sector.

Looking Ahead: The Impact of Industry Exposure

For students like Olivia, Cheyenne, and Abigail, WiT Africa was more than just an event. It was a chance to visualise their futures, grow their networks, and gain real-world insights.

These experiences are how we help our students build confidence, think big, and prepare to thrive in the world of work.

Be part of a community that supports your dreams and opens doors to real opportunities.
