Eduvos will be taking the stage at this year’s Comic Con Cape Town 2025. As featured speakers at the iconic pop culture event from 1 to 4 May at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) 2, we are set to bridge the worlds of AI-learning, creativity, and esports like never before.
Comic Con Cape Town, a celebration of pop culture welcoming people from all backgrounds, provides the perfect platform for Eduvos to connect with forward-thinking students passionate about technology and gaming. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to visit us in the main gaming hall to learn more about our future-fit, accredited qualifications, 12 campuses nationwide, and our Higher Certificate in Information Systems (Game Design and Development).
We are no stranger to Comic Con and have been exhibiting and hosting esports tournaments in collaboration with RGB Gaming since 2023. This year, as the only higher education provider to be both exhibiting and speaking, Dr. Miné de Klerk, Dean of Curricula and Research, and Dr. Riaan Steenberg, Executive Director of Eduvos, will present on the Pop-Taku stage on Friday, 2 May.
“At RGB Gaming, we believe esports has a powerful role to play in education. Competitive gaming fosters critical thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy – skills that are essential in today’s world. Esports provides a platform for students who might not participate in traditional sports to thrive, while also opening doors to STEM learning and career pathways in the gaming industry,” says Jaco Sauer, General Manager for RGB Gaming.
For gaming enthusiasts, we have partnered with RGB Gaming to host an electrifying student gaming tournament on Saturday, 3 May. The tournament will showcase our Vossie gamers competing against each other in a high-energy demonstration of the skills developed through their gaming-focused programmes. This partnership represents our commitment to creating an ecosystem that bridges education and industry, providing students with real-world competitive gaming experience.
Dr. de Klerk will present “Reshaping the Future of Higher Education with AI” on Friday, 2 May at 1:30 pm, exploring how artificial intelligence technologies are transforming traditional learning environments, empowering educators and students to embrace new possibilities in knowledge acquisition and skills development. She will address how AI tools can be ethically integrated into curricula to enhance critical thinking rather than replace it, preparing graduates for an AI-augmented workforce.
“Having established our presence at Comic Con Cape Town in previous years, we look forward to taking this opportunity to the next level by sharing our vision for AI-driven education,” says Dr. de Klerk. “At Eduvos, our dedicated AI committee works collaboratively with faculty and students to ensure responsible integration of artificial intelligence across all curricula while fostering ethical awareness and critical thinking skills.”
“Esports opens doors for our students – not just to compete, but to create. With more than 2,000 developers emerging from Eduvos annually, we’re equipping the next generation with the skills to transform Africa’s digital landscape. Esports, along with AI, robotics, and extended reality, forms a core part of the future-facing education we offer – where learning is immersive, relevant, and career-focused,” says Dr. Steenberg.
At 2:30 pm, Dr. Steenberg will deliver his presentation, “The Impact of Esports & Education: Bridging the Critical Skills Gap in South Africa”, highlighting how competitive gaming develops vital workplace competencies, including strategic thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy, skills that are increasingly sought after by employers across sectors. Dr. Steenberg will discuss our pioneering approach to incorporating esports into formal education pathways.
