Meet Artur Tombia, a passionate Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management graduate from the Eduvos Midrand campus. His journey is one of perseverance and courage.
Originally from Angola, Artur discovered a passion for marketing that started long before his formal studies, at just 14 years old. Artur’s inspiration comes from his mother, who studied Marketing in Angola, and he knew he wanted to follow in her footsteps. This led him to choose Eduvos to pursue his Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management degree. What followed was a transformative experience–one that shaped his growth not only academically, but also on a personal and professional level.
“I’ve been working in Marketing since I was 14, especially through music and the arts. Studying at Eduvos gave me the platform to formalise those skills and take my passion to new heights,” says Artur. “South Africa has always felt like a second home to me, and Eduvos stood out with its strong academic reputation and supportive environment. It wasn’t just about getting a qualification, it was about growing as a person and gaining the confidence to build a future I truly believe in.”
Artur chose to study at Eduvos in South Africa for several meaningful reasons. Having visited the country since he was a child, South Africa already felt like a second home, familiar, welcoming, and full of opportunity. Its proximity to his home country also made the transition smoother. What truly drew him to Eduvos was the institution’s strong academic reputation and the quality of education it offers. He believes that the environment at Eduvos not only supports academic excellence but also encourages personal growth, helping students shape themselves into confident and capable individuals ready to take on the world.
Despite pursuing his studies in a different country and learning a new language, Artur felt supported every step of the way by his Student Affairs Advisor. He speaks highly of his time at Eduvos, crediting his lecturers for sparking his passion for the course content and providing the academic guidance that helped him succeed.
“My Student Affairs Advisor was always there when I needed guidance or support. Knowing I had someone in my corner made all the difference on this journey.”
Artur recalls how Eduvos surprised him with its innovative and fun learning methods, which included assignments that required students to create social media-style videos. “My dad thought I was doing Instagram videos instead of studying. However, Eduvos understands modern marketing, and the practical assignments helped me see the real-world application of what we were learning.” As an international student, Artur felt embraced, never excluded. He found the learning environment inclusive, supportive, and open-minded. “Eduvos didn’t see barriers. They provided a space for me to grow – as a student and as a person.”
Now a proud 2024 graduate, Artur is excited about the future and looks back on his Eduvos journey with gratitude and pride. His message to other students, especially international Vossies? “It’s possible. You can make it. Eduvos gave me everything I needed to succeed, and I’m proof that with the right mindset, anything is achievable.” Artur is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Digital Marketing and is gaining experience through freelancing, with a strong focus on growing his career in the marketing field.
