Bursaries

The tips you need to secure that bursary.

Education is the best investment you will ever make and something that can never be taken away from you. Whether you’re looking to start your higher education journey, in your 3rd year, or even changing institutions and worried about paying for your education, why not consider applying for a bursary?

Bursaries are one of the best ways to finance your studies and achieve your higher education goals. You can keep an eye on our external bursaries page to ensure you don’t miss an opportunity.

There are bursaries relevant to each of our faculties and we have some amazing tips to help you secure one:

We really encourage you to read the bursary advert carefully to ensure you meet the criteria. Bursaries all have specific requirements about fields of study, demographics and other areas that candidates need to meet.

Remember to include all the required supporting documents. Often these need to be certified so give yourself enough time to put your application together.

Some bursaries require a motivation to support why you should be awarded the bursary. Use these points as a guide on how to go about writing your motivation:

Give this the attention it deserves as it can distinguish you from other candidates. Bursaries are highly competitive, so you want to make sure you stand out.

Present yourself in the best possible way, while always remaining accurate and factual. Include any achievements or awards.

Highlight the parts of your life story that align with the bursary requirements. Let your passion shine through.

Research the bursary provider and the industry they operate in. If there are aspects of their work that inspire you, find ways to include it in your motivation.

Proofread your application to ensure it contains no grammatical errors. Make sure all the information is correct and that you have completed all sections in line with the requirements. Include up-to-date contact details so bursary providers can easily get in touch with you.

Don’t wait until the last minute to complete your application, always keep time on your side. You never know when loadshedding will strike or an online application system experiences a glitch.
