Eduvos Bachelor of Commerce graduate Bianca De Klerk talks to us about her experience at our Bedfordview campus.

Why did you decide to study at Eduvos and why did you choose this qualification?
Eduvos is a private institution and it’s different in the sense that you get special treatment. You aren’t just seen as a number; the people and the lecturers care about you. They don't just focus on passing, they really want to make sure you understand the coursework and strive to pass with distinction. You feel like family. When you go to campus, you feel like it’s a home away from home. Everybody’s so friendly all the time.

I chose a BCom degree because I’ve always been interested in business. I did Business Studies and Economics in high school. I’ve always been interested in knowing how business functions and what it takes to have a successful business.

My degree covered four different fields, opening me up to many different careers. I’ve always been an all-rounder and that’s also what my degree did for me, I know a lot about a lot of things.

What unique aspects about Eduvos stood out to you?
You’re not just seen as a number. From what I’ve heard from my friends in bigger institutions it’s big classes and lecturers don’t have the time to give you the one-on-one time that you need. At Eduvos, you get special care and attention, and the lecturers ask all the students questions and not just a select group.

What advice would you give to students looking to study at Eduvos?
Pick a degree that you actually want to study. Don’t just study something purely because you think it will get you a job or because you don’t know what to study.  My friend suffered from anxiety and depression because her dad pressured her into pursuing a degree. That incident made me a huge advocate for mental health. Choose something that you’ll enjoy. You don’t want to be miserable for those three to four years knowing that you wasted your time, and you didn’t enjoy it.

Do you plan on studying further?
I would like to do my Honours in either Marketing or Business Management but I’m leaning more towards Business Management. I enjoyed Marketing as a module, but it was a lot of work. With Business Management, I’ve always done exceptionally well. After that, I’d like to study a degree in Psychology. Then I’d try to pursue an Industrial Psychology role.

Would you encourage others to study at Eduvos?
Yes, definitely! I feel like I’m being repetitive but because of the friendliness and the one-on-one care. I would 100% recommend it, especially the Bedfordview campus. I’m biased obviously but there are a lot of nice study places within the campus as well.

From what my friends from other institutions have told me, when they approach their lecturers for after-hours help, their lecturers get annoyed with them. But with our lecturers, you can even WhatsApp them in our WhatsApp groups and they would respond almost immediately. They’re always open to answering questions. For example, Kudzai Matiashe, was always open to answering questions, even at night or early in the morning. I didn’t think I could get a distinction in Accounting and he helped me achieve that.

Please tell us about your current role.
I'm a Junior Mobile Administrator at 1Nebula, it's a cloud-based company. So, they help with cloud cost optimisation. I recently just started, so it is a new role.
