According to a 2022 PWC Student Survey, the needs and expectations of tertiary students have changed.

While the classroom is still a valuable place of learning, there’s a need to broaden the scope of education to include other stakeholders like industry, community and even government.

Students’ needs are also different and must be accommodated through online learning, part-time study, interactive lessons and even elements of gamification.

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of flexible learning and ensuring that education is as accessible as possible. It accelerated the introduction of a hybrid flexible mode, or HyFlex mode, which is an instructional approach combining face-to-face and online learning.

At Eduvos, we’ve adopted the blended learning approach, mixing asynchronous learning (learning that occurs at your own time and place) and synchronous learning (learning that occurs at the same time, albeit online or on campus). We believe in driving active learning participation of our students, ensuring that they’re both recipients and collaborators in their own learning journey.

We’ve had to reimagine what higher education will look like by undergoing a process of academic re-engineering. One of the outcomes of that process is the creation of a Design and Future Learning team whose purpose is driving academic content development and the digital transformation of academic delivery in Eduvos.

Within the Design and Future Learning team, the Development Hub is responsible for content creation within a digital learning journey. Much of the content they create lives on an Eduvos student portal, ensuring that learning can take place anytime and anywhere.

“Learning should be enjoyable and challenging but not overwhelming - with our inside and outside of class learning experiences students can take their learning to a next level - it's no longer just about what you know - it is what you can do with it! “- Dr Mia Beyleveld, Head of Design and Future Learning at Eduvos.

This content is available even before the academic year officially starts, giving students insight and allowing them to start classes fully prepared with the foundational knowledge to build on. With this blended learning model, learning starts even before classes do.

This also means that the roles of lecturer and student are changing. Learning is no longer an isolated event between just a student and a lecturer, it’s active and effective, with proven results for lower-achieving students. There are also focused interactions with content, peers and tutors in appropriate learning settings – in and outside the classroom. These changes are helping our current education system to evolve into Education 4.0.

"Eduvos is at the forefront of teaching and learning in the industry. We are challenging the ways of thinking, and in doing so, we are preparing learners from day 1, to be world changers and world leaders. The Smart Blended Learning model flips the traditional and outdated lecture-based methods.” – Denise Wilson, Interim eLearning Design Lead.
