Real success is often shaped in the moments of growth that happen behind the scenes, through dedication, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning. Meet Kapampa Chishimba, a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Software Engineering stream graduate from our Midrand campus.
With a growing passion for technology and problem-solving, his journey reflects dedication, continuous learning, and the confidence gained through hands-on, practical experience. Today, he is turning his early interest in tech into the ability to build solutions that address real-world challenges.
Growing up in the west of Johannesburg, Kapampa's interest in technology began in high school through Computer Applications Technology (CAT) classes, when he realised that there was more to computers than just Microsoft Office. With the guidance of a teacher who encouraged deeper thinking, he started to see technology as something he could build and work with.
"I wanted to understand it, create it, and build a future around it," he says. After matriculating in 2022, software engineering appealed to him. It offered a way to turn his curiosity into practical skills and to build a future-forward career over time. Eduvos provided the space where he could grow that capability while preparing for the demands of the tech industry.
One of the biggest challenges Kapampa faced during his studies was not having a laptop. For a Software Engineering student, that meant finding alternative ways to keep up with coursework and projects. Luckily, Eduvos gave him access to state-of-the-art computer labs and resources that allowed him to excel in his studies. “There were times when I had to rely heavily on the campus computers, and I would often stay on campus until late at night, sometimes right up until closing time,” he recounts. Those late nights taught him the value of putting in the hours and having the discipline, focus, and ability to keep moving forward even when conditions were not ideal.
His academic experience was further shaped by practical, hands-on learning. In the Mobile App Development class, he worked closely with classmates who quickly became friends, as they worked together to build "Cingaphambili", a project management app. "That project meant a lot to me because it was one of the first times I saw an idea come to life through teamwork, creativity, and the skills we had learned," Kapampa says.
His lecturers also played a key role in shaping how he approached his work. "They taught me that what you put in is what you get out. Success comes from effort, consistency, and pushing yourself beyond just getting the work done," he shares. Outside of academics, his faith and friendships helped him stay grounded, giving him the support and perspective needed to keep going during more demanding moments.
Through his studies, Kapampa built a strong foundation in problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking, skills that have prepared him for the realities of the tech industry. Looking ahead, he is focused on creating technology that has a meaningful impact on people's lives. "I want to create technology that helps, uplifts, and opens doors for others," he shares.
He also hopes his journey encourages others who may feel limited by their starting point. "If one day I can use my career to make life better for others while also inspiring someone to believe in their own dreams, then I would feel that I have made the kind of impact that truly matters," he says.
For Kapampa, progress was built in those small, consistent moments: Staying a little later, trying again, and making full use of the resources Eduvos made available to him. From late evenings on campus in the computer lab to seeing his ideas take shape in real projects, each step moved him closer to where he is now. It's that steady commitment that continues to shape him and set him up for success in the real world.
