Eduvos Launches Game Design and Development Qualification at Comic Con Africa.

Post by Eduvos, October 10, 2023.

On Sunday, 24 September, Eduvos participated in Comic Con Africa 2023 with RGB Gaming, pioneers in sustainable esports at learning institutions.

We were able to showcase the intersection of esports and education, in a dynamic exhibition space, where our Gauteng Eduvos campuses went head-to-head in an Apex Legends gaming tournament.

“Playing at an event like Comic Con, one of the biggest events of the year was amazing. The experience of playing against others on a stage was an exciting experience and I would love to perform once again.” - Gaspe Abayaratne, Higher Certificate in Information Systems, Cyber Security

Comic Con Africa was an incredible success for Eduvos! We are so proud of our Gauteng and North West Vossie gamers, some of whom are already on the road to becoming pro gamers.

“It was a great experience with all the different Eduvos campuses participating. It really showed us more background and brought a good competitive spirit to the world of Eduvos.” - Shivar Maharaj, Higher Certificate in Information Systems, Robotics and Intelligent Systems.

This was also an incredible opportunity to launch our new Higher Certificate in Information Systems, Game Design and Development. As part of the Technology Faculty, this new qualification covers critical areas for building a solid foundation in the gaming field, thereby empowering aspiring game developers with a good mix of technical skills, game design principles, and project management knowledge.

You can learn more about our Higher Certificate here. Students have the option to pre-enrol with the first cohort commencing in February 2024. The approach we take on esports goes beyond gaming, while covering the realm of elements that include esports. It’s a gateway to understanding the business, broadcasting and IT aspects of esports.

There has been much activity in the esports and gaming arena, and with only a few months left until the holidays, we are excited to share the following updates.

Eduvos Game Jam Update
We are halfway through the Eduvos Game Jam. Hackathon #3 will be coming up on Saturday 14 October, followed by the final Hackathon on 4 November. We will select 3 winners on 18 November, and the winning teams will showcase their game at the rAge Expo in Johannesburg.

Campus Leagues Update
On Saturday 28 October we will be launching esports at Nelson Mandela Bay, East London and Mbombela. The leagues will be competing in a CS: GO tournament, and we invite our seasoned campuses to join in the fun!

Events Update
Eduvos will be exhibiting at this year’s rAge which will take place on the weekend of 8 December. rAge is South Africa’s longest running video gaming, technology, esports, geek culture and digital entertainment exhibition.

Like Comic Con Africa, our Gauteng Vossie gamers will be competing in a gaming tournament, and the winners of the Game Jam competition will showcase their games – which will be open to all rAge visitors to play.

We are leveraging esports across the country, to provide our students with a platform to explore the benefits of gaming and develop critical skills that are essential for success in the modern world.
