RPL and CAT - Eduvos

RPL & CAT.

Overview:

Eduvos supports and strives for the mobility of students. Deciding to switch between higher education institutions can be difficult, but it's important to remember your education and personal happiness are a top priority. At Eduvos, our teams are on hand to make your transfer stress-free so you can seamlessly resume your studies with us. We recognise credits you accumulated in your previous formal studies with other Higher Education Institutions or Universities and any other form of prior learning.

Your knowledge, work experience or skills are evaluated for alternative access and admission or exemption from taking some modules in a formal qualification for which you would not have qualified for according to our Admission policy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT). Credits earned for an unfinished qualification can be recognised as progress toward a different qualification or as part of the requirements for the same qualification.

In order to apply for RPL you have to be 23 years of age or older with at least three years' current, relevant working experience. Prior learning should have been acquired in one or more of the following ways: workplace learning, informal study for recreational/personal interest purposes, company/industry based training, working with experts, or life experience.

You should apply for RPL if you feel that your prior learning meets the prescribed requirements of the equivalent modules offered at Eduvos. You will also need to comply with all the admission requirements of the qualification for which you wish to apply for an RPL credit. You may not apply for credit in a module that you previously attempted unsuccessfully.

You should apply for RPL if you feel that the learning/experience that you have obtained meets the set requirements of the modules that Eduvos offers. Experience could have been gained through any of the following:

  • In the workplace
  • On-the-job training
  • Industry-based or Company training
  • Relevant training programmes
  • Community work in a relevant field
  • Any relevant personal learning experiences
  • Relevant formal, informal and non-formal training

At Eduvos we have four intakes throughout the year in February, May, July and September/October. We recommend you allow yourself enough time before any of the above intakes to ensure you have all the relevant information and documentation. This will enable you to submit the necessary evidence of your prior learning to Eduvos and allow our staff time to assess your evidence and provide any necessary feedback.

Your knowledge, skills and competencies will be assessed by our academic panel based on the relevant evidence you submit. This may be a challenge exam, an interview, a work-related project, or a portfolio of evidence (which contains records of your experience, knowledge and skills). You will be given further guidelines for each of the assessment options if your RPL application is successful.

If you are found to be 'competent', in that you meet the learning outcomes for the module, you will be notified accordingly by Eduvos.

If you are found to be 'not yet competent' in a certain learning outcome, you may either be requested to do additional modules and be assessed at a later date, or you will be advised to follow the traditional route of study and enrol for the module.

A student may receive a maximum of 50% of credits towards a qualification. You must thereafter enrol and traditionally pass the remaining modules before the qualification will be awarded.

A student may obtain access to a higher qualification via the RPL route, provided they meet the admission requirements of the pre-requisite undergraduate degree. If you were granted access/advanced placement to a higher qualification via RPL, you will not receive a certificate relevant to the lower qualification, but merely be allowed to register for a relevant higher qualification, should you wish to do so.
