Scenario: Access and Credit Pathways
James has worked in management for 15 years. He wants to apply for a senior management position at his company, but the job requires a Business Management degree.
James considers RPL, he needs to have at least five years’ relevant working experience to study in the field of his interest. He already has the knowledge and experience and over the years he has attended many short courses and completed some qualifications at different institutions. Instead of starting the 3-year degree from scratch, James applies for Academic RPL at the university.
James’s knowledge, experience and courses are reviewed in an RPL Readiness Evaluation, and based on the feedback there are different Forms of RPL that he can consider:
Access (Admission): If James does not meet the normal entry requirements for an Eduvos qualification, his previous knowledge and work experience can be assessed. If he passes this assessment, he can still be accepted into the degree programme and begin his studies.
Credits (Exemption): If James has already completed some subjects or has certificates from other institutions, and wants to change his course or move to a new institution, he may be given credits. This means he can be exempted from certain modules, helping him finish his degree sooner.
Scenario: Career Pathway
Cleo has worked as a receptionist for 15 years.
Over time, she started helping with office administration and management tasks. She once started a formal qualification but couldn’t finish because of personal reasons. Cleo doesn’t want to study further, but she needs official proof of her skills to apply for any jobs or to get a promotion.
She knows she can do the job of an Office Administrator, but she doesn’t have the certificate to show it.
Cleo submits her documents for an RPL Readiness Evaluation, and based on the outcome Cleo can apply for RPL for Advancement (Career Progression) which provides her an alternative access route to employment. She needs at least three years’ of relevant working experience to be accepted onto the programme to be assessed for RPL against an Office Administration qualification.
Cleo successfully completes the programme and receives a RPL Certificate and a Statement of Achievement (SoA) that confirms her skills and competencies for the specific job or occupation, making her eligible for advancement within her organisation.
