Humanities Students Step into the Workplace at Valeo.

Post by Eduvos, September 29, 2026.

The workplace became the classroom for our third-year Eduvos Nelson Mandela Bay Humanities students with a visit to Valeo as part of their Work-Integrated Learning module. The experience gave students an opportunity to see the inner workings of a tech company and gain practical insight into the world of work.

Learning How Organisations Work.

During a factory tour and business overview session, students explored how different departments, systems, and functions work together towards shared organisational goals. Valeo representatives also went into identifying some of the experiences and challenges graduates may encounter as they begin their careers. These conversations gave our students a clearer picture of how the knowledge and skills developed through their studies will be applied in professional environments.

Working Across Generations.

One of the highlights of the visit was a discussion led by Monique Marais, Human Resources Business Partner, on intergenerational relationships in the workplace.

With different generations often working alongside one another, students explored how perspectives, expectations, and working styles can differ. The session offered practical insight into the role that communication, understanding, and adaptability play in building strong working relationships.

It also reinforced the value that the skills developed through studying a humanities qualification can bring to organisations. The ability to understand people, communicate effectively, think critically, and engage with different perspectives provides students with capabilities that can be applied across a wide range of professional environments, including the IT sector.

Building Future-Fit Graduates.

Work-Integrated Learning plays an important role in helping our students bridge the gap between their studies and the world of work. By gaining exposure to real workplace environments, students can see how their learning applies in practice, build valuable industry experience, and develop the skills and confidence they will need in their careers.

Experiences like the Valeo visit bring this learning to life. They give students the chance to engage with professionals, ask questions, and strengthen future-fit competencies such as communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and collaboration. By combining academic learning with meaningful workplace exposure, Eduvos helps prepare students for the realities of the working world and the transition from higher education into their careers.

A big thank you to the Valeo team for welcoming our students and sharing their time, knowledge, and insights with them.

Applications are open. Apply today to start 15 February and become a Vossie in 2027.
